Spiritual Baptists, also known as Shouters or Shouter Baptists, are a religious group that originated in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 20th century. Their beliefs combine Christianity with elements of African traditional religion and spirituality.
Spiritual Baptists believe in an all-powerful God who created the universe and sent his son Jesus Christ to save humanity from sin. They also believe in the Holy Spirit, who they believe possesses and guides individuals during their religious services.
Their worship services are characterized by music, dancing, and chanting, which are believed to help communicate with God and the spirits. Members of the group also regularly partake in baptism and other religious rituals.
Spiritual Baptists have faced persecution and discrimination throughout their history, particularly in the Caribbean, where their practices were viewed as uncivilized and were often banned by authorities. However, they have continued to practice their religion and are recognized as an important cultural and religious group in Trinidad and Tobago and throughout the Caribbean.
